The adoption of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study for Mathematics (NCSCoS) marks a new leap forward in the continual process of improving learning for all our students. These standards are based on a philosophy of teaching and learning mathematics that is consistent with the most current research and exemplary practices.

The English Language Arts Standards are based on research and evidence that describe the competencies necessary for all students to become college and career ready by the end of high school, outlining a vision of what it means to be a literate person in the 21st Century.

VCS Innovative Initiatives include:

  • 7 schools improved their overall proficiency on EOG/EOC tests
  • The district's overall performance trend in reading in grades 3-8 remained positive; 4th grade performance improved by 5 points
  • The district's overall performance trend in math remained positive; 5th grade performance improved by 3 points
  • The district exited low-performing district status and maintained that for the 2nd consecutive year
